The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has introduced the Changing Narratives Fund, a new initiative by the Department of Canadian Heritage aimed at supporting creators from diverse communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, ethno-religious minorities, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
The fund’s objectives are to:
- Enhance Professional Development: Provide funding for training, mentorship, and professional development initiatives to increase the number of qualified and skilled diverse creators in the industry.
- Support Organizational Capacity: Assist organizations in developing and delivering innovative, high-impact activities that build capacity and maintain resilience within Canada’s audiovisual sector.
- Promote Authentic Representation: Ensure that diverse stories and perspectives are authentically represented in Canada’s audiovisual sector.
- Foster Economic Opportunities: Create new economic opportunities and promote greater equity within the audiovisual sector.
- Encourage Appreciation of Diversity: Inspire all Canadians to appreciate the rich diversity of the population through audiovisual productions that accurately reflect diverse voices and experiences.

By enhancing the skill sets and networks of diverse creators, the fund seeks to cultivate a more inclusive and representative industry. Applications for the fund opened on November 21, 2024, and will close on December 20, 2024.
